Mount Wilson Trail
I have a few questions regarding the Mount Wilson Trial, I am new to this so sorry for any lame questions, my questions are below
How does this trail rate to El Preito? Is it more tech the El Preito? Is the climb tough? How long does it take to do the whole trail (I am very limited on my riding time, we just had a kid) Is this a good trail for a seasoned beginner (I have been on tons a trail rides just not in this area and plus I have no idea how to classify my skills, but I am a desert motorcycle racer so I love me the rocks and gnalry crap like that)
Any info would be great, I am thinking about riding it Sat morning if not back to El Preito Posted by Mtnbikejones a 29 year old Weekend Warrior riding a Schwinn Mesa from South Pasadena on 04/03/07

Mt. Wilson vs. El Prieto - Hands down, Mt. Wilson is a much, much longer climb...but same degree of difficulty...just longer.. :) The tech compared to El P is also very similar...again, just longer. And, there are some spots that have some pretty serious exposure.... I'd say length of time will depend on your climbing ability and how long you can sustain the climb to the top. Coming down will be a blast.
Since you seem to be enjoying El P, I'd take the next step..
Have fun! :)
Let us know how you like it...and be sure (if it's hot) to go early. Posted by Crzyridr33 a 34 year old Die-hard Enthusiast riding a SantaBansheeCruzBlurr on 04/07/07

Cool thank you for the info..
I must admit thought I am not as tough as I thought!! I found out this last weekend I was only climing half way up Brown mtn before I headed down the fire road to the trail head, this Saturday I am going to climb to the top and take the trail head from up there all the way down, from what I have been told the single track at the top is just as fun as the one I have been riding.. I was also told this is a pretty tech kinda trail but I didn't think so, Anyway I will see how I do this weekend then try the Mt Wilson trail..
One last question about MT Wilson Trail, is a single track climb to the top or kinda like Brown fire road all the way up? Again sorry for the lame questions, just trying to figure all this out,, thanks again for all the info Posted by Mtnbikejones a 29 year old Weekend Warrior riding a Schwinn Mesa from South Pasadena on 04/09/07

Contact me directly; I'll talk you through the various Mt. Wilson routes. We are riding the Monster this Saturday morning early and will be descending Red Box / Gabrielino. Absolutely one of my favorite California EPIC rides. The long 9.5 mile clilmb up Mt. Wilson toll rd. will be at low Zone 2-3 so no one gets dropped (at least I am). If you are interested in a personal tour. Posted by Mphiver a 52 year old Racer riding a Turner 02/Turner XCE/Trek 5500 from Fallbrook on 04/13/07

Even for advanced riders, The Mt. Wilson Trail (NOT the Mt. Wilson toll road, which is officially closed and has been for 2-3 years now) is not a trail ideal for climbing, unless you don't mind hike-a-biking in many parts. Your best bet is to climb up from Winter Creek in Chantry Flats or up The Mt. Lowe Railway. For now though, you should focus on fire road climbs (i.e. Brown Mtn. / E.P.) and work your way up to climbing single tracks. Be safe out there and be sure to be courteous to other trail users.

He's obviously doing well...I threw him a softball and he hit his usual home-run! It wouldn't be the good old days w/o Joe's persnicketycantankerousness blessing us once in a great while! Freaky, in deeeeeeeeeed.
Besides, like this bored, he's stalking me on another bored today. Guess which one....5 posts since 2004 and he's well on his way to owning that bbs.

That was a real f*cked up thing to say. Considering you have no life other than this board, I know that you know all of the details of Joe's injury and that was f*cked up. Good to see you are the same piece of sh!t as always. Posted by GRide on 04/16/07
